About Roy
Born in the heart of Nottingham City Centre in 1958, Roy's artistic journey began under the influence of his father, a long-distance lorry driver, and his mother, a skilled lace maker. In those days, cobbled streets were the norm, and young Roy found solace in the world of painting and drawing, particularly captivated by the majestic imagery of Galleon ships.
As life led Roy away from Nottingham, the family settled in the charming market town of Atherstone, opening up a new chapter filled with the wonders of nature. Roy's spare moments were soon dedicated to exploring fields and hedgerows, collecting and studying nature in all its forms – from flora and trees to rocks and wildlife
Roy's artistic journey took a more structured turn during his apprenticeship in painting and decorating, where he delved into color theory, designs, and specialist finishes. His flair for sign-writing emerged as a significant talent, eventually becoming his primary source of income.
Even as the demand for hand-painted signs waned with changes in the brewing industry, Roy adapted, venturing into new avenues. His creativity found expression in murals adorning children's bedrooms, hotel-themed rooms, and playful spaces across England and Europe. Notably, his recent murals grace the walls of Father Hudson's Care Homes in Coleshill, showcasing his commitment to bringing joy through art.
Roy's artistic odyssey also includes two successful exhibitions – one at the Atherstone Anglia Building Society and the other at Riversley Park Gallery, Nuneaton. His paintings, often featuring animals, captivated audiences and left a lasting impression.
In 1983, Roy established his own sign-writing company, catering to various breweries nationwide and leaving his mark on pub signs across the country. Simultaneously, he continued selling his paintings, accepting commissions for pet portraits, and branching out into designing and producing unique items like fire screens, clocks, and furniture.
Today, Roy continues to paint, taking on commissions and exploring new horizons. Recently, he embraced the world of limited edition prints, making his art accessible to a wider audience at affordable prices.
Join Roy on this colorful journey through the lens of his creativity, where every stroke tells a story and every piece reflects his deep connection to the beauty of the world around us.
